How to choose a Western name for studying abroad
Your Indian name belongs with you wherever you study. If you want an additional English or Western name for everyday introductions, choose one because it feels right to you.

No. A second name is a personal choice. You can introduce yourself with your existing name, explain how to pronounce it, or use an optional chosen name in informal conversations. NaamStar offers inspiration for that last option; it does not replace your identity or change your official documents.
Start with what you want the name to express
Before browsing names, decide what matters to you: a familiar sound, a meaning you like, or a connection to a personality trait. A name that is convenient to say can still feel wrong if its meaning or associations do not suit you.
Write a short sentence such as “I want a name that feels calm and familiar” or “I would like something connected to courage.” Use that sentence to compare suggestions instead of choosing the first name on a popularity list.
Try it in ordinary introductions
Say the name aloud in a sentence: “Hi, I’m [name].” Try it with your surname and ask a trusted friend to read it without instructions. Listen for pronunciations you like and ones you would have to correct repeatedly. Ask someone familiar with your destination about local associations; a name can sound different across languages.
Keep the connection to your existing name
You might prefer a similar initial, a related sound, or a meaning that reminds you of home. None of those is compulsory. You can also simply say, “My name is [Indian name], and I also go by [chosen name].” This makes the relationship clear without asking you to abandon either name.
Choose personality or Nakshatra as a starting point
NaamStar has two routes. Choose a personality archetype if that is the starting point you prefer. Alternatively, use your known Nakshatra or the site's illustrative birth-detail calculation. The calculation is simplified and is not a professional astrological chart. Either route offers cultural inspiration rather than a guarantee that a particular name is right for you.

Can I change my mind later?
You do not have to commit to an informal second name after one quiz. Try it in a low-pressure setting, think about how it feels, and keep your existing name if you prefer. The useful result is a choice you are comfortable making.
